I’m Dr. Ayanna Miller, an emergency medicine specialist and the proud founder of Profashional Scrubs. As a medical doctor, I spent countless hours in scrubs, and I quickly realized that the standard workwear available didn’t reflect how I wanted to feel or present myself. I’ve always believed that when you look good, you feel good—and that applies to work, too. It’s this realization that led me to create Profashional Scrubs, a brand that blends professionalism and fashion for every hardworking professional.
The Inspiration Behind Profashional Scrubs
My journey began in the hustle and bustle of emergency rooms, where long, exhausting shifts made it difficult to stay energized and motivated. As someone who loves fashion and understands the importance of presentation, I found myself frustrated with the dull and unflattering scrubs I was wearing. Despite how much I loved medicine, the repetitive grind of the healthcare system in Trinidad and Tobago—paired with uncomfortable workwear—made the job feel even harder.
I didn’t set out to build a business; I was simply searching for a solution to my own problem. I wanted to feel confident and stylish, even on the most exhausting days. So, I started experimenting with different looks, making sure that I showed up to work dressed in a way that made me feel empowered. I would arrive in scrubs that were stylish and unique, with my makeup done, and instantly, my energy shifted. When I felt good, I performed better. I was commanding attention in the room, and it boosted my confidence as a doctor.
That’s when it hit me: if I was facing this issue, surely others were too. I knew that if I could find a solution for myself, I could help others who wanted to feel more confident in their scrubs as well. What began as a personal quest to feel good at work became the foundation of Profashional Scrubs.
How Medicine Shaped My Vision
Being a doctor taught me a lot about what professionals need from their uniforms. I learned that scrubs need to be functional—offering comfort and durability for those long shifts—but they also need to make the wearer feel good. I wanted to bring fashion into the equation, without compromising the essential aspects of workwear.
That balance between style and functionality became the core vision of Profashional Scrubs.
So, I began by curating scrubs from other established brands and introducing them to the local market in Trinidad and Tobago. To my surprise, I received incredible feedback, with colleagues and other professionals telling me how confident they felt in these new, fashionable scrubs. They would ask me, “Where did you find these scrubs? I can never find anything like this!” It became clear to me that there was a real demand for stylish, functional workwear, and I knew I had the eye for it.
From Reselling to Building My Own Brand
It wasn’t long before I decided to stop reselling other brands and take the plunge into creating my own. I didn’t want to just be another retailer. I wanted to build something of my own, something that spoke directly to the needs of the professionals I knew and worked with every day. I dove deep into learning about business, design, and branding, and in February 2021, Profashional Scrubs officially launched as a unique, independent brand.
What excites me the most is the feedback I get from customers. When they tell me they feel more confident, more stylish, and ready to take on the day when they’re wearing my scrubs—it reminds me why I started this journey in the first place. I wanted to give others the solution that worked for me: scrubs that allow them to show up as their best selves, both inside and out.

One thing I take pride in is that Profashional Scrubs is all I wear—I refuse to touch another brand! And why would I? Every piece we design is created with love, attention to detail, and a commitment to making sure our customers feel both fashionable and professional. I believe in what we’ve built, and I’m proud to say that Profashional Scrubs has become a staple for professionals in healthcare, beauty, aesthetics, and beyond.
Faith and Perseverance: Navigating the Challenges
Building this brand hasn’t been without its challenges. There were moments of doubt, setbacks, and long nights where I questioned whether I could juggle being a doctor, a new mom, and a business owner. But through it all, my faith has been my foundation. I truly believe that when you trust in a higher power and combine that with hard work and perseverance, success is inevitable. Every time I faced an obstacle, my faith helped me push through.

When I started Profashional Scrubs, I didn’t just want to create another company that sells clothes. I wanted to build a brand that empowers professionals to show up confidently, knowing that when they look their best, they can perform their best.
